Rolex “Pepsi’ GMT Master ref. 16700 circa 1996

Coined the “Pepsi” for pilots used the blue and red insert for a 12 and 24 hour distinction, this GMT is from 1996 with a T-serial on case and tritium dial. This one is fitted on a solid endlink bracelet from 2001–this is considered an upgrade even if not the original mate to the head

The GMT Master as opposed to the “Master II” is a thinner watch and the automatic 3175 calibee movement features an independent quickset date. So why the 16700? It is considered the “last gmt” and the end of an era born in 1988 and only lasting approximately until 1996 (the tritium era’s end).  It also houses the 3175 caliber automatic movement which enables seconds hacking and independent date change. While no service history this one is running smoothly and looks healthy on timegrapher:

  • No box, and literature but no papers

  • No damage, light signs of polish, thick and sharp lugs
